Benefits for our patients
Human ResourcesSpinal column patients are handled by a team of highly qualified specialists with a great deal of experience in various areas, such as orthopedics, neurosurgery, physiatrics, physical therapy, and psychology. The spinal column service of Clínica Nuestra Señora de los Remedios is led by Dr. Luis Felipe Villota. This service of the clinic is supported by our institution and by the Images Department. Video-assisted – Thoracoscopic Surgery, the only one of its kind in ColombiaSpinal column surgery for the segment of the thorax requires that the surgeon performs a large incision, through which he introduces instruments to allow him to separate the muscles, reach the spinal column and correct the disease. It is a painful procedure for the patient who in addition to being left with a large scar, must remain in bed for several weeks. In light of this traditional way to operate the spinal column rises another modality known as video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery, which in contrast to the foregoing, means performing small 10 millimeter incisions between the ribs, through which a thin instrument, made of fiber optics, is introduced. This material transmits images from inside the thorax to a screen where the specialist can see and then correct problems such as fractures, tumors, deformities, infections, hyperhidrosis and scoliosis. |
