Instituto de Religiosas de San José de Gerona

Company

Company The San José de Gerona Nuns Institute, owner of the Clínica de los Remedios, came to Cali in the year 1922. Four years later and by decree from the Bishop Luis Adriano Díaz, it began caring for and providing assistance to the sick from the Garcés Clinic. This was one of the most distinguished health institutions of the time and it was owned by the physician Luis H. Garcés, who died in 1948. In 1954 the clinic was sold to the aforementioned religious community.

Upon changing owners, the clinic, initially located at Carrera 8 between 13th and 14th street, was named Clínica Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, as a tribute to the patron Virgin of Valle del Cauca State. It operated in the address mentioned above until September 24th of 1970, when they moved to their current facility, located at Avenida 2 Norte No. 24th-157.

At the time, it was a building that broke the mold. During the 60s and 70s, the Remedios Clinic became one of the most notable cultural pieces of modern real state architecture of Cali, like the Carvajal Building, the Fatima Chapel, the Municipal Aqueduct and the Colombia and Campestre (Country) Clubs, among others constructions.

It was in the Remedios Clinic where the first cancer and kidney transplant and re-implants were performed in the region. Specialties such as gastroenterology, orthopedics and urology were also among the innovating surgical techniques of the time. It was also one of the pioneers in performing hand re-implant surgeries.

Today, it is the only clinic in South America performing valve surgery, with a beating heart, on patients who have highly deteriorated cardiac functions. In Colombia, it is recognized for being a reference center for highly complex spinal column surgery, among which stands out the Video Assisted - Thoracoscopic Surgery, a pioneer in this surgical modality.

Los Remedios Clinic has certified all its services under the Icontec ISO 9001:2000 standard. Surgery in a variety of specialties, a delivery ward, an adult and children intensive and intermediate care unit, hospitalization, an emergency room, imageology, a laboratory, physical medicine and rehabilitation are some of the services that stand out in level three care. Articular, stereotaxic and cardiovascular replacements stand out in Level four care.
